The Handmaid’s Tale

Cover proposal for the book The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.

The Handmaid’s Tale is a dystopian novel and one of the most important works of the Canadian writer and political activist. It highlights the social criticism and the treatment of women, who play a fundamental role in the novel. In the words of its author, it is “an imaginary account of what happens when certain not infrequent pronouncements about women are taken to their logical conclusions”.

Illustrated campaign composed of four posters showing the values and the story behind each garment. IAIOS is a Catalan company that mainly produces sustainable wool sweaters. Each one of them is special, because it is made in small local workshops.

To carry out the assignment, we took as a starting point the idea of the sweaters made by our grandparents and the memories of our childhood to build the campaign slogan “Indelible memories with a dose of nostalgia”, showing everyday images that revolve around mothers and grandmothers along with their needles and balls of yarn.

Series of six illustrations for the cover and inside editorial report of the El País Semanal supplement “The battle against obesity” by Pablo Linde. This disease, which carries a social and medical stigma, affects 16% of the adult population and 160 million children and adolescents, according to the WHO. The double meaning generated by the illustrations is thought-provoking, as they show a message that goes beyond the obvious. The reader is invited to a deep reflection through the conceptual illustration and the evident contrast between the aesthetic and the critical and social background.
